I think I want to start going thru the Bible a little each day to replace my regular Facebook time. I want to start with Psalms and Proverbs, since I have been somewhat weak on self-assessment throughout my life. Then I want to go thru some of the major Prophets for the background that led up to Jesus. I want to save the OT history books, the Gospels and Revelation for last because they require deeper understanding.
Blessed is the one
who does not walk in step with the wicked
or stand in the way that sinners take
or sit in the company of mockers,
Paraphrase: I feel like I need to get away from anything that disrupts my life, including people who are mean. I don't want to be around people who have all the answers to everything and don't give you a break for a minute.
2
but whose delight is in the law of the Lord,
and who meditates on his law day and night.
Paraphrase: I want to get familiar with God's Word and I think I can do this if I stick to it regularly.
3
That person is like a tree planted by streams of water,
which yields its fruit in season
and whose leaf does not wither—
whatever they do prospers.
Paraphrase: There is a strong philosophical value in that book which could guide my life to perfection.
4
Not so the wicked!
They are like chaff
that the wind blows away.
5
Therefore the wicked will not stand in the judgment,
nor sinners in the assembly of the righteous.
Paraphrase: I hope that what mean people do comes back to bite them. I won't say someone is nice if they are mean to me, and I won't say someone is mean if they are nice to me.
6
For the Lord watches over the way of the righteous,
but the way of the wicked leads to destruction.
Paraphrase: I trust that God will help me be good, and that he will punish mean people who continue to be mean.
